Attended ACU (Abilene) on football scholarship, married Janet in 1964, graduated in 1966, started preaching in Fairy, Texas (1964) and upon graduation moved to preach full-time at Ropesville, New Home, Grand Prairie (all in Texas). Became pulpit minister at Windsor Park Church of Christ in Corpus Christi in 1977. In 1989, started Unbound Word (www.unboundword.com), a publishing company for teaching materials related to prisoners and those seeking to recover from addictions. Retired from the pulpit after 25 years at Windsor Park and became full-time Director of the church's Prison Ministry (still serving in this capacity). Became President of NewLife Behavior Ministries in 2002 and relocated their central office from Dallas to Corpus Christi (www.nlbm.org). NewLife Behavior is a curriculum-based program that develops life-skills materials. Started Christians Against Substance Abuse (CASA) in 1988 and it has spread internationally (www.AskCASA.com).
My "bestest friend" at VHS was Melvin Lawrence. We did everything together (hunted, fished, bowled, went to movies). The "key" was that Mel had access to his parents' Oldsmobile plus - gas! We were "bosom" buddies. One reason we didn't "date" much in high school was that we did not have TIME. We were too busy doing things together. Folks at VHS liked to kid us about being so close. Walking through the halls, we would get questions like: "Hey, Mel. Has Buck given you a ring yet?" and, "Buck, have you guys set 'the' date yet?" We just laughed and rolled with the punches. Mel and I are still close friends although we do not see each other often. After high school, I went to Abilene (ACU) to play football and Mel took a few courses locally but soon went to work at Alcoa (making the Big Bucks). Consequently, I found and married Janet and Mel found and married Judy. Still, when Mel & I do meet, we give each other a big "bear" hug - just like long-lost brothers.

Bob,
Congratulations! Happy Birthday!
You have done well. My wife (Janet) retired last month after 30 years as a realtor.
Would like to see you "one of these days" when I am passing through Victoria as I do so often. I might even buy you a cup of coffee!

Hello, Judy! I think the last time I heard from you, you were a church secretary somewhere. Is my memory right? I can't recall "where" at the time. Anyway, hope you are doing well. We are still in the sunny city - Corpus Christi!
